Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ousts Lukas Rosol at Madrid Open

Jo Wilfried-Tsonga gets the better of Lukas Rosol 7-5 6-3 in the opening round of the Mutua Madrid Open.

Twelfth-seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga proved too strong for Lukas Rosol in the opening round of the Mutua Madrid Open this afternoon.

The opening set was a tight affair between two hard-hitting players, but it was Tsonga who grabbed the one and only break when leading 6-5 to prevent a tie-break.

One break was all Tsonga needed again in the second set, but this time it came much earlier in the second game as he raced out to a 3-0 lead before comfortably serving out the victory 6-5 6-3 in just over an hour.

Up next for the Frenchman in round two will be either Jack Sock or wildcard Pablo Andujar.
