Kei Nishikori defeats Pablo Andujar to win Barcelona Open

Number one seed Kei Nishikori wins the Barcelona Open as he defeats Pablo Andujar in straight sets to secure his ninth ATP Tour title.

Kei Nishikori has claimed the Barcelona Open title by defeating Pablo Andujar in straight sets.

The two players matched each other stroke for stroke for the majority of the first set as they tied at 4-4.

The number one seed then crucially held his serve before upping the ante on Andujar's serve to clinch the set with a break.

Andujar responded in the second set as he immediately broke Nishikori's serve and then secured a crucial hold to take control of the set. The Spaniard managed to repel the 25-year-old to take a 4-2 lead and edge closer to forcing a decider.

However, Nishikori discovered his best form at the crucial moment once again to break back and tie the match, and then broke Andujar once more to win the set 6-4 and clinch the title.

The triumph is Nishikori's ninth ATP Tour title win of his career.
