Andy Murray breezes past Tomas Berdych to reach semi-finals of Madrid Open

Andy Murray beats Tomas Berdych in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the Madrid Open.

Andy Murray's defence of the Madrid Open title continues after he reached the semi-finals by beating Tomas Berdych on Friday afternoon.

The world number two sealed a 6-3 6-2 victory over the Czech in just under one hour and 20 minutes.

The Scotsman had a strong start by breaking at the first time of asking in the opening set, immediately putting Berdych on the back foot.

The Czech saved set point, but it did not keep him in the set for much longer as Murray comfortably held to take the lead on the clay surface.

It took just over half an hour for Murray to wrap up the second set as he earned a double break before seeing off Berdych to book himself a spot in the final four.
