David Ferrer wins Qatar opener

David Ferrer sees off Alexandr Dolgopolov to reach the second round of the Qatar Open.

David Ferrer booked his place in round two of the Qatar Open thanks to a 6-3 5-7 6-3 victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov this afternoon.

The Spaniard took control of the opening set early on thanks to a break of the Dolgopolov serve and he went on to wrap it up in just 35 minutes.

However, the Ukrainian responded positively in the second set and was able to force a decider.

He failed to replicate that feat, though, as Ferrer proved too strong in the third set to secure his spot in the next round.
