Great Britain's Heather Watson moves into the top 50 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career.

Heather Watson has moved into the top 50 of the WTA rankings after she won the Japan Open on Sunday.

Watson has risen 21 places after her triumph in Osaka, and the 20-year-old has admitted that moving into the top 50 of the world rankings was one of her goals for the season.

She told BBC Radio 5 Live: "The top 50 was a goal - it will push me to make harder goals.

"I really wanted to do well this week so I could earn my rest next week because this is my last tournament of the year. I don't think I could have ended it any better.

"I'm excited to have a break but I am looking forward to working hard again because it motivates me to achieve more."

Watson's win in Asia also saw her become British number one ahead of Laura Robson.
