Leon Smith backs Andy Murray for "very good year"

Davis Cup captain Leon Smith believes that Andy Murray is not far away from winning another Grand Slam.

Davis Cup captain Leon Smith has tipped Andy Murray to enjoy a successful year in 2015.

The Scot was unable to follow up on his Wimbledon victory in 2013 and failed to win a Grand Slam this year.

He has been hampered by injury problems over the past 12 months, but Smith believes that he is reaching peak form ahead of the New Year.

"I don't think he's far away," Smith told The Times. "He will recognise there are areas of his game he can improve to make sure he keeps increasing the likelihood of winning another Slam, but he's going to be there or thereabouts.

"His form at the end of this year is strong and he's now focusing on adding that extra dimension to make sure he's competitive against the likes of Novak Djokovic.

"Next year is going to be a very good year for him. He's finished this season not how he would have liked it at the O2, but the six weeks previous was simply phenomenal. He's going to be very fit, very strong, and challenging for the Grand Slams in 2015. We're going to see the very best of Andy Murray."

Murray will be looking to add to his haul of two Grand Slam titles in next month's Australian Open.
