Chris Kermode appointed ATP chief

Britain's Chris Kermode is appointed the new executive chairman and president of the ATP.

Britain's Chris Kermode has been named as the new executive chairman and president of the ATP.

The 48-year-old will begin his three-year contract with the governing body of men's tennis on January 1.

Kermode takes over from Australian Brad Drewett, who passed away from motor neurone disease in May.

The Brit's most recent roles within the sport have been as tournament director of the Aegon Championships at Queen's Club and managing director of the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.

"It's a huge honour to have been given the opportunity to lead the ATP during what is unquestionably one of the most exciting periods in the history of men's professional tennis," Kermode told the ATP's official website.

"I look forward to getting started in my new role and to working very hard together with ATP staff, players, tournaments and partners as we look to harness the full potential of our great sport in years to come."

Kermode played and coached tennis professionally before moving into the administrative side of the sport.
