Andy Murray is much more impressed by his movement in Madrid than he was in Monte Carlo a couple of weeks ago.

Great Britain's Andy Murray has admitted that he was pleased with the way that he got around the court during his first match at the Madrid Masters earlier today.

The world number three recorded a 7-6 7-6 victory over Germany's Florian Mayer, which in turn was the 400th win of his professional career.

Having been knocked out of the recent Monte Carlo Masters by Stanislas Wawrinka, Murray insisted that he performed much better this time around.

"It's always difficult playing your first match at altitude," said Murray. "I felt like I hit the ball very well today, very few miss-hits.

"I just didn't return so well. That was the only thing I would have liked to have done better. I moved very well, which I didn't do in Monte Carlo, so that's a big improvement."

Murray will now take on Frenchman Gilles Simon for a place in round four.
