Andy Murray: 'I had to be patient'

Andy Murray reveals that he had to be patient to beat Marcel Granollers in round two of the Italian Open.

Andy Murray has revealed that he needed a patient approach to beat Marcel Granollers in the second round of the Italian Open on Wednesday.

Both players had to battle blustery conditions on court in Rome, but it was the Brit who eventually came through 6-2 7-5.

"You need to think your way through the match," the seventh seed, who received a bye in round one, told Sky Sports News. "You have to be patient with yourself.

"I went for a high percentage of first serves today because it's very, very windy and also the sun was coming round from one of the ends so that was in your eyes.

"All the dust and stuff was getting in your eyes. It was extremely blustery, strong conditions. From one of the ends it was really tough to get any real depth on the ball. I just tried to play a smart match."

Waiting for Murray in round three will be either Austria's Jurgen Melzer or Croatian Marin Cilic.
