Angelique Kerber has defeated Garbine Muguruza in straight sets in the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
The World No. 6 was pushed hard by her Spanish opponent, eventually winning the match 6-4 7-5 to progress through to the quarter-final stage of the California-based competition.
Muguruza has proven to be a surprise package throughout the competition and Kerber was made to work in both sets before edging the match in one hour and 20 minutes.
Kerber will now play Samantha Stosur in the last eight.
