Tomas Berdych breezes through at BNP Paribas Open

Ninth seed Tomas Berdych reaches the last 16 at Indian Wells with a 6-4 6-2 win over Steve Johnson.

Tomas Berdych has booked his place in the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open thanks to a straight-sets win over Steve Johnson.

It was an even start as both men held serve in the opening four games, but ninth seed Berdych then made the first break in the fifth.

Johnson hit back not long after to make it 4-4, but Berdych broke again straight away before sealing the opener 6-4.

The second set was a much simpler affair for the Czech as he broke Johnson twice on his way to a 6-2 success, wrapping up the match in 72 minutes.

Berdych will face either Robin Haase or 27th seed Lukas Rosol in the next round at Indian Wells.
