Richard Gasquet defeats Nikolay Davydenko to advance through to the last 16 of the French Open.

Richard Gasquet reached round four of the French Open this afternoon thanks to a 6-4 6-4 6-3 success over Nikolay Davydenko.

The world number nine started the clash positively and claimed an early break of his Russian opponent's serve, before going on to take the opening set in 46 minutes.

Playing in front of a home crowd, Gasquet won the second set by the same scoreline and then broke on two occasions during the third set to secure his place in the next round.

He will now take on either Stanislas Wawrinka or Jerzy Janowicz for a slot in the quarter-finals.
