The Spaniard overcame his compatriot in a 6-4 7-6(6) 6-1 victory on the clay court in Paris after play was interrupted after the second set.
Lopez showed his intent in the first half by breaking back instantly after losing serve, but it failed to trouble Ferrer as he broke again to take the lead.

The 2013 finalist had a wobble at the start of the second set as he dropped serve, but he responded nine games later to take the match into a tie-break, which the 34-year-old edged 8-6.
After returning to court following a weather disruption, Ferrer swept through the third set in 39 minutes, leaving Lopez with just one game on the board.
