Sara Errani reaches the last four in Paris by knocking out 10th-seed Angelique Kerber 6-3 7-6.

Sara Errani has knocked out 10th-seed Angelique Kerber to reach the semi-finals and continue her best ever run at the French Open.

Italian Errani broke in the opening game before holding to take an early 2-0 lead.

The pair continued to hold serve until the ninth game when Errani broke again to take the set and give her the advantage of serving first in the second.

Kerber, however, broke early on in second but couldn't repeat Errani in holding and the set was level at 2-2.

German Kerber began to make more of the running and she looked more imposing by again breaking in game seven to take a 4-3 lead, but yet again she couldn't back up the break and was broken straight back in the next.

A third straight break meant Kerber had the chance to serve out the set but she again couldn't take the chance.

The pair looked iffy on serve and both were broken in the final two service games of the set as the second went to a tie-break.

Errani seemed to take confidence from saving set points in the 12th game and took an early 3-1 lead in the breaker.

She went to take the tie-break to two and seal her place in the semis for the first time in the French capital.

Errani, seeded 21, takes on Sam Stosur in the final four at Roland Garros after the Australian overcame Dominika Cibulkova.
