Roger Federer could miss French Open due to birth of third child

Roger Federer has hinted that he could sit out this year's French Open if it coincides with the birth of his third child.

The Swiss said that he would feel duty bound to be there for his wife Mirka should she go into labour when the tournament is due to take place.

"It's a priority for me trying to be there, trying to support my wife," Federer told reporters. "I've played enough tennis matches. Missing a tournament or missing a match wouldn't change anything for me."

Federer, who has played in every Grand Slam tournament since 2000, went on to say that he is hoping circumstances will allow him to attend his child's birth as well as compete in the tournament.

The French Open is scheduled to take place between May 25 and June 8.
