Leon Smith: 'Andy Murray will make choice over doubles participation'

Andy Murray will make the final decision over whether he plays in the doubles during the Davis Cup tie against the USA.

Great Britain captain Leon Smith has revealed that Andy Murray will make the final choice over whether he can participate in the doubles against the USA in the Davis Cup this weekend.

Murray will be facing both John Isner and Sam Querrey in singles action but the decision over his participation in the doubles has not yet been confirmed.

The Scot is still searching for full fitness following surgery on his back towards the end of last season.

"That's the unknown, everyone who has spoken to Andy says he wants to play doubles, he wants to play all three matches and he's still the best player on the court," said Smith.

"If he's fit and healthy he plays, but we will have to see how demanding the Friday match has been and it's not until Saturday morning when he sees how his body is after the first few steps that we make a decision on it."

Murray could partner Colin Fleming, Dominic Inglot, James Ward or Kyle Edmund in the doubles match.
