British pair Kyle Edmund has moved a step closer to reaching the main draw of the Australian Open after earning a win in the first round of qualifying.
Edmund was given an early scare by Frenchman Tristan Lamasine when he lost his serve in the fourth game in the first set, but he recovered to take the lead with a 6-4 triumph in the opener.
The 20-year-old was dominant in the second set as he broke his rival twice before securing the victory by converting the second of two match points to set up a meeting with American Austin Krajicek.
However, it wasn't to be for Brydan Klein, who suffered a 6-4 6-4 defeat at the hands of Australian Dane Propoggia.
Earlier in the day, Liam Broady caused an upset by winning his opening clash against world number 120 Farrukh Dustov in straight sets.
