Serena Williams confident ahead of Australian Open

Serena Williams says that she is confident of her chances of winning the Australian Open this year.

World number one Serena Williams has said that she is feeling "pretty good" ahead of the Australian Open, which gets underway on Monday.

The 32-year-old American lost to her compatriot Sloane Stephens in the quarter-finals last year after struggling with ankle and back problems during the tournament.

"I just wasn't able to stay on two feet, literally," she told reporters. "This year I've been doing a lot of exercises for my ankles and trying to make sure that they're pretty stabilised.

"Right now I feel pretty good. Felt pretty good the last at least year. So I'll see how it goes."

Williams will take on 17-year-old Australian Ashleigh Barty in the first round.
