Roger Federer has admitted that he will pay close attention to how many tournaments he plays this season in an effort to maximise his performance in big events.
Federer is chasing an 18th Grand Slam title in next week's Australian Open, and the Swiss star believes that longevity will be key to a successful season at the age of 31.
He told reporters: "I'm hoping for another good year but they're all different in many ways.
"This last one was very emotional. Getting back to world No. 1 was a major goal of mine last year.
"So this year is maybe more of a transition year for me. Making sure that I practise enough and rest enough to look at the longevity aspect and the tournaments which I enter, to make sure that I am at full force."
Federer begins his quest for a fourth Australian Open title next week with a first-round match against Benoit Paire.
