Alexandr Dolgopolov believes that his previous record against Bernard Tomic will help beat the Australian in Melbourne.

Alexandr Dolgopolov believes that his previous record against Bernard Tomic will count for something when the pair meet in round three of the Australian Open later this week.

Ukrainian Dolgopolov has beaten the 19-year-old in their last three matches, something that has given the 13th seed confidence ahead of the encounter.

"Well, I think he's improved from last year, that's for sure," Dolgopolov told reporters. "He had two tight matches as well.

"I think it will be tough, you know, if he plays well. But as you said, I won all the three times, so that will give me a bit of confidence.

"For sure I know how to play him. The best player on that day will win."

Dolgopolov was speaking after his second-round win over Tobias Kamke.
