Charlie Maddock claims gold for Great Britain in taekwondo at European Games

Great Britain's Charlie Maddock wins the first ever gold medal in taekwondo at the European Games by defeating Tijana Bogdanovic in the women's -49kg final.

Great Britain's Charlie Maddock has become the first ever gold medallist in taekwondo at the European Games in Baku.

The 19-year-old reached the final of the women's -49kg after beating Hungary's Ivett Gonda in the semi-finals to set up the meeting with Tijana Bogdanovic of Serbia in the gold-medal match.

Maddock took the fight to the Serbian as the she took a 8-5 lead in the second round, only to see her opponent rally to tie the scores and force a golden point.

However, the Briton maintained her composure and landed the winning punch on Bogdanovic to secure the gold medal, her country's second of the Games.

Bogdanovic's exploits won her the silver medal, while Croatia's Lucija Zaninovic and Azerbaijan's Patimat Abakarova claimed the bronze medals.
