Milad Beigi Harchegani wins taekwondo gold for Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan's Milad Beigi Harchegani beats the Russian Federation's Albert Guan to win taekwondo gold in the men's 80kg at the European Games

Milad Beigi Harchegani has raced to a shock taekwondo gold for Azerbaijan in the men's 80kg at the European Games.

Harchegani, who earlier beat Great Britain's Lutalo Muhammad in the quarter-finals, was the lowest-ranked athlete in the event, but that didn't stop him beating the Russian Federation's Albert Guan 9-4 in the final.

Guan was 3-1 down after round one, but he hit back to trail by just one prior to the final round.

However, he couldn't stop a rampant Harchegani, who scored four unanswered points to secure victory.

Muhammad and Portugal's Julio Ferreira won bronze.
