Aaron Cook has warned the British Olympic Association that he is pondering switching his allegiance to another country.
The world number one was overlooked for the recent Games in London by the BOA in favour of Lutalo Muhammad.
Having lost his appeal against that decision earlier this summer, 21-year-old Cook has conceded that he would be willing to compete for another nation to fulfil his "dream" of competing at an Olympics.
"In three years I may be under a different flag," Cook told BBC Radio 5 live. "My dream is to win an Olympic gold in Rio for Team GB but it's going to be extremely difficult for me to move forward after everything that's happened."
Cook is currently the European champion at -80kg.
