Drinkhall played brilliantly to defeat reigning men's Commonwealth champion Yang Zi of Singapore by four sets to one.

Winning the first three sets back-to-back with scores of 11-7, 11-7 and 11-8, the 22-year-old was in command from the outset.

Yang showed his class to fight back and take the fourth set 11-4, but could not stop Drinkhall taking a tight decider 11-9.
