United States duo Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will go head to head in the 200m individual medley final at London 2012.

The American stars were drawn in the same heat in this evening's semi-finals, where Lochte beat his rival by almost a clear second with a finish time of 1:56.13.

Team GB's James Goddard put up a good fight against Lochte and Phelps, coming in third in the same heat with a time of 1:58.49 to make the final.

His compatriot Joe Roebuck swam in the second heat, where he faced a tough test against Laszlo Cseh of Hungary and Chad le Clos of South Africa.

Roebuck struggled to remain with the pace-setters and bowed out in seventh.

Cseh is the greatest threat to the Americans in tomorrow evening's final, going into the last eight as the second-fastest qualifier behind Lochte.
