Susie Rodgers stunned by Paralympic gold

Great Britain's Susie Rodgers tells Sports Mole that she was more surprised than anyone by her gold medal-winning performance in the 50m butterfly at the Paralympic Games.

Great Britain's Susie Rodgers has admitted that she never expected to win gold in the women's S7 50m butterfly at the Rio Paralympic Games this evening.

The 33-year-old stormed to Britain's third gold of the night in the Olympic Aquatics Stadium, finally clinching the top prize following a haul of four bronze medals in the past two Games.

Rodgers was visibly shocked by the result, and revealed afterwards that the thought of a gold medal was not on her mind going into the race.

"It's certainly a nice thing to have, yeah! I'm going to enjoy the podium. I just can't believe it. I literally can't believe it," she told Sports Mole.

"I honestly thought going for silver, I qualified second, we'll see what happens. That's what I was aiming for. I did not ever expect that in my wildest dreams.

"I just try my best to do as well as I can. It's all about personal best, which is what we're aiming for. We've got a great team behind us, great coaches, I've got great coaches back at home - Tony and Keith - they're going to be over the moon."

Rodgers, who also won a bronze in the 50m freestyle on Friday, could further added to her medal tally in the 400m and 100m freestyle events.
