Jazz Carlin "over the moon" with 800m freestyle bronze

British swimmer Jazz Carlin admits that she is "over the moon" after winning the bronze medal in the 800m freestyle event at the World Swimming Championships.

Jazz Carlin has admitted that she is "over the moon" to have won a bronze medal in the 800m freestyle at the World Swimming Championships in Russia.

The 24-year-old secured Great Britain's ninth medal of the meeting, while American Katie Ledecky took almost four seconds off her own world record to claim the gold.

Carlin told BBC Sport: "I'm over the moon. I didn't realise how fast Katie was going but to go 8:07.39 is incredible.

"It's been a tough road. This is my first 800m World Championships final, so to come away with a bronze medal is looking in the right direction for next year."

The third-placed finish gives Carlin her first individual world medal, adding to the bronze that she won as part of the 4x200m freestyle team in Rome in 2009.
