Rebecca Adlington has secured a place in the women's 400m freestyle final at London 2012.
The Great British medal hope narrowly made the top eight with a finish time of 4:05.75, edging out Spain's Melania Costa Schmid.
France's Camille Muffat was the fastest during the heats, finishing in 4:03.29. Hotly-tipped Italian Federica Pellegrini could only manage third in her heat with a time of 4:05.30.
Adlington's teammate Joanne Jackson bowed out of the competition with a seventh-placed finish in the third heat.
The women's 400m freestyle final takes place at 8.18pm this evening.
