Great Britain's Jacob Peters won his first individual medal at a major international tournament with a bronze in the men's 100m butterfly at the European Short Course Championships.

The 23-year-old nabbed the final place on the podium with a time of 49.98, just over a second and a half behind gold medallist Noe Ponti of Switzerland, whose 48.47 was a new European record, beating his 48.61 in the semi-finals.

Maxime Grousset of France took the silver medal with a time of 49.00, which was coincidentally the same rank Peters achieved in his second final of the day, the men's 4x50m medley relay.

Together with Matthew Richards, Oliver Morgan and Archie Goodburn, GB secured second place with an overall time of 1:32.60 on the board, as Italy (1:30.78) stormed to the title with the Netherlands (1:33.03) in third.

However, after winning a pair of golds on the opening day in the men's 4x50m freestyle relay and women's 400m individual medley - where Abbie Wood finished atop the pile - GB would not clinch European title number three on Wednesday.

The 2022 world short course bronze medallist in the women's 50m freestyle, Anna Hopkin placed joint fourth in the European event, 0,39 seconds behind Swedish champion Michelle Coleman.

Imogen Clark (1:05.86) finished eighth in the women's 100m breaststroke final, which was won by Eneli Jefimova of Estonia, while the Republic of Ireland's Shane Ryan was fifth in the men's 50m backstroke, missing out on bronze by just two-hundredths of a second.
