Michael Jamieson claimed that his performance was "not good enough" after being beaten to the 200m breaststroke Commonwealth title by fellow Scot Ross Murdoch.
It was a new British record which clinched victory for Murdoch in Glasgow, and Jamieson conceded that he could have no complaints with the result when speaking shortly after the race.
"Ross took a big chunk out of his personal best, and so deserved to win," the 25-year-old told BBC Sport. "I don't prepare to come second though and it is just not good enough.
"Breaststroke is about technique and stroke efficiency and you saw that from Ross, I don't know why mine wasn't there tonight. I couldn't have done any more in my preparation."
England's Andrew Willis picked up bronze in the final.
