Michael Phelps storms to 200m medley title

18-time Olympic champion Michael Phelps sets a world-best time to win the 200m individual medley at the USA National Championships.

Michael Phelps has won the 200m individual medley at the USA National Championships to win his third title in three days.

The 30-year-old claimed victory with a time of 1:54.75 to add to his recent wins in the 100m butterfly and the 200m butterfly.

It is the fastest time recorded this year and is just 0.75s behind Ryan Lochte's world record, which was set in 2011.

"I've been away from the sport for a while and I feel like I'm kind of back where I used to be. It's good to be here," BBC Sport quotes Phelps as saying.

Phelps has been excluded from the USA squad for this month's World Championships due to a drink-drive conviction.
