Ian Thorpe to make international comeback

Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe returns to international competition for the Asian legs of the World Cup.

Australia's Ian Thorpe will attend his first international meeting in five years at the World Cup in November.

The five-time Olympic gold medallist retired in 2006, but has expressed his intention to race at next year's London Games.

Before then, the 28-year-old will travel with an Australian squad of 26 for the Asian legs of the World Cup in Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo.

"I'm excited about being part of an Australian team again," he said.

"The reality for me is I'm now at the next stage of my preparation and getting ready to race competitively, and I'm really looking forward to catching up with everyone in Singapore."

Thorpe has also won three Olympic silver medals and one bronze in the 2000 and 2004 Games.
