England's Ben Proud hoping to push on from Commonwealth Games success

Ben Proud is hopeful of adding to his two gold medals from the 2014 Commonwealth Games when he competes in two more swimming competitions this month.

England swimmer Ben Proud has turned his attention to the European Championships following his double gold-medal success at the Commonwealth Games.

The 19-year-old won his country's first swimming gold at Glasgow 2014 with success in the men's 50m butterfly, while he also came out on top in the men's 50m freestyle.

Rather than taking a breather from the sport, Proud is now back in training ahead of a busy month.

"Right now I've got to make sure I'm ready for the national championships in Sheffield and then I'm competing in Berlin in the Europeans," the Plymouth Herald quotes the teenager as saying.

"We'll be using the nationals in order to prepare for the European Championships which will be tough. At the nationals it will be training in between competing. Hopefully, then I'll go to the Europeans in good shape."

England won 174 medals at this year's Games.
