Team England's Danielle Lowe: 'It's not been my Commonwealth Games'

Danielle Lowe tells Sports Mole that she hopes to use her Commonwealth Games experience to earn success in the future.

Team England swimmer Danielle Lowe is hopeful that she can challenge for a medal in a few years' time after struggling to perform at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The 19-year-old finished last in the 400m individual medley final and fell short of her personal best in the 200m breaststroke heat this morning.

Shortly after Lowe's performance in the pool, Sports Mole grabbed a quick chat with the teen on what she aims to take away from her Games debut.

Fourth in the heat - how do you feel after that?

"Disappointed. I was miles away from my PB, I haven't really had the best week - started with the 400m medley on the first day and that didn't really go to plan. I'm just really disappointed. I wanted to come here and swim the best that I possibly could and I don't think that's as much as I can do. I think I'm better than that, but oh well."

You said before the 400m individual medley that you were really nervous. How do you feel now, is your mindset different?

"After the 400m medley I was absolutely shaking - I was so, so nervous, but today I had a different attitude. I was a bit more chilled out, I had my music on and I had the two girls (Sophie Taylor and Molly Renshaw) next to me, so I was a lot more chilled this morning, but I just think that my preparation hasn't been great. I've been really ill - I had root canal last week, so I haven't really had the best preparation, but I'm here at the end of the day and that's a great achievement in itself."

Is that what you're hoping to take away from it then - the experience for moving forward?

"Definitely. I would have loved to have come here and swam PBs and got up to the finals, but to be honest, it's not my week, it's not my Games, but hopefully in a couple of more years to come, I'll be up there."

England currently have 11 swimming medals.
