England's Laura Massaro "disappointed" to miss out on squash gold

Laura Massaro says that she is disappointed to only claim silver in the Commonwealth Games women's doubles final, but believes that it represents an overachievement.

England squash ace Laura Massaro has expressed her disappointment that she and doubles partner Jenny Duncalf failed to win Commonwealth Games gold today.

The duo were made to settle for a silver at Scotstoun as Indian pair Joshana Chinappa and Dipika Pallikal cruised to an 11-6 11-8 win in this evening's final.

Nevertheless, Massaro, who also claimed silver in her singles event, says that she is prouder with second place on this occasion given the minimal time that she and Duncalf had to prepare.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't win but we gave it our all, we've had a great week and I'm proud of the silver," she told reporters.

"I'm more proud of my performances in the doubles than the singles really.

"We don't play it for four years so for us to come together as a pair with very little preparation and perform like that is something to be proud of."

Their compatriots Alison Waters and Emma Beddoes won their bronze-medal clash with Australia to seal third.
