England's squash bronze medallist Peter Barker has revealed how he was determined to secure a podium finish after missing out on today's final.
Barker beat Saurav Ghosal of India this afternoon to seal a third-placed finish in the singles event to ensure that he would not be leaving Glasgow without tangible reward for his efforts.
The 30-year-old, who also claimed bronze in Delhi four years ago, lost to compatriot Nick Matthew in Sunday's semi-final, and Barker says that disappointment spurred him on today.
"It wasn't easy and it was a very nip and tuck game. He played well and it was never comfortable ever," he told reporters.
"I was gutted after the semi-final but someone had to lose and I woke up today and I was determined to seize that chance of a bronze medal, that was my motivation."
Team England are guaranteed a gold medal in this afternoon's final, with Matthew taking on countryman James Willstrop.
The final is scheduled to begin at 3.45pm.
