Seven-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan is out of the Masters at the quarter-finals stage after succumbing to Neil Robertson.

Neil Robertson has recorded a 6-4 victory over Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter-finals of the Masters.

O'Sullivan, a seven-time champion at this event, had been the favourite to prevail in the high-profile showdown at the Alexandra Palace.

However, Robertson, a winner of this event in 2012, benefitted from a strong start, taking the opening two frames and never letting O'Sullivan get ahead.

Although the crowd favourite was able to get back to 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4, his Australian opponent always had the momentum through five breaks above 50.

Two of those were of 119 and 130 respectively, and they proved to be the difference as he continued to make up for early exits on his previous two appearances at this event.

John Higgins or Mark Williams will square off against Robertson on Saturday.
