Scarlets coach Simon Easterby has admitted that it would be "a disaster" if George North departed the club at the end of the season.
North's agent confirmed on Tuesday that the wing had undergone talks with Northampton Saints, but Easterby has insisted that he will hold onto the Welshman.
"If George leaves it goes without saying it would be a disaster for us and the rest of the Welsh regions, and for Welsh rugby in general. It shouldn't happen and we shouldn't be talking about this," Easterby told reporters at a press conference.
"George is an exceptional talent. He's come through our region, we've supported him and we've developed his skills. He's not played for another side, and we're desperate to keep hold of him."
A number of Aviva Premiership clubs are understood to be monitoring proceedings.
