Mark McCall hails Billy Vunipola character following England setback

Mark McCall believes that Billy Vunipola returning to his best form can only be good news for Saracens following their latest victory over London Irish.

Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall has heaped praise on Billy Vunipola following his impressive showing against London Irish this afternoon.

The 22-year-old, who was overhauled from the England fold midway through the Autumn Internationals at the back end of last year, has bounced back from that disappointment by producing a number of high-quality performances for Sarries in recent weeks.

Vunipola was crowned man of the match in his side's 22-6 victory at Vicarage Road earlier today, which led to further compliments from McCall.

"He was great today," McCall is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "What's impressive is you get a huge setback like he got. From being the starting No 8 in the Six Nations to not even going into the [England] camp for the last couple of weeks [of the autumn internationals].

"It's a hell of a blow for a young fella. You can only judge him by how he's reacted and how he's responded. That's five games in a row when he's been there or thereabouts in terms of getting close to man of the match.

"He was really good out there today. It's good for us and it's good for him that he's back in top form."

Saracens are currently third in the Aviva Premiership table.
