Salford Red Devils charged by RFL over alleged breach of salary cap rules

The Salford Red Devils are charged by the Rugby Football League over an alleged breach of salary cap regulations.

Salford Red Devils have been charged by the Rugby Football League over an alleged breach of salary cap rules.

The Super League team could be docked 20 points if they are found to have breached the cap, which stands at £1.825m, within the last two years.

A statement from the RFL read: "The RFL has issued charges in relation to alleged breaches of the RFL Operational Rules and Salary Cap Regulations concerning contractual arrangements made with Salford players in 2014 and 2015.

"The charges will be considered by an independent Off Field Operational Rules Tribunal, at a date to be confirmed."

The club are currently sixth in the table after taking four points from five games.
