Helen Glover: 'I could change boats after next Olympics'

Olympic women's pairs champion Helen Glover reveals that she will consider switching boats after the next Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Olympic women's pairs champion Helen Glover has revealed that she has ambitions to try a different discipline after the 2016 Olympic Games.

Glover won gold with Heather Stanning at London 2012, but despite turning her focus to Rio de Janeiro next year, the Truro-born athlete has admitted that she is keen to try to earn success in a different boat later in her career.

The 28-year-old told BBC Radio Cornwall: "I would like the opportunity to maybe branch out and try a different boat, but that would need some careful consideration as to whether I was going to continue after Rio, as I don't see myself moving boats before Rio.

"The pair is the only boat I've rowed internationally and that wasn't intentional, I started rowing with Heather, we went fast enough to be selected together and it happened to be in that boat type. We then happened to keep on winning, so there was no reason to leave that event.

"However, if Heather hadn't come back after the Olympics when she had a year out and went off into the army, then I might have considered doing something like the single or the double."

Glover and Stanning are currently preparing for the European Rowing Championships in Poland, which take place next month.
