Twenty Russian rowers banned from Olympics

Russia see their rowing squad for this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro cut from 26 athletes to just six.

Russia's rowing team for this summer's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has been cut from 26 athletes to just six.

The International Olympic Committee controversially ruled against imposing a blanket ban on all Russian athletes at this summer's Games, despite allegations of state-sponsored doping in the country.

Instead, each sport's individual governing body will rule whether they allow Russia athletes to compete, and FISA has decided to cut Russia's participation by 20 people.

The cuts mean that Russia will now have just one boat instead of five as originally planned, with Italian, Greek and Australian crews replacing them.

Twelve of the 24 federations are still to report on whether they will allow Russian athletes to compete.
