Jay Rodriguez reported to Football Association 'for racist remark'

The Football Association is to look into an alleged racist comment made by Jay Rodriguez to Gaetan Bong in West Bromwich Albion's 2-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Bromwich Albion striker Jay Rodriguez has been reported to the Football Association after allegedly making a racist comment to Gaetan Bong in the 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The incident, said to have taken place in the second half of Saturday's clash at The Hawthorns, was not discussed in depth by either manager at full time.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton confirmed that Martin Atkinson was made aware of the remark, however, ensuring that the matter will now be dealt with by the FA.

"Gaetan Bong has reported Jay Rodriguez for something that has been said to him. It's been handled in the correct manner by the referee," Hughton is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"The referee is aware of what the allegations are and that will go through to the FA. I am aware of the allegations. All I can say is it was dealt with in the correct manner and the nature of the allegations the FA will deal with."

Asked to comment on the nature of the comment made by Rodriguez, Alan Pardew said: "I can only say on my behalf, because I haven't seen the incident, knowing Jay Rodriguez I find it very difficult to understand, if I'm honest. Jay Rodriguez claims that the allegation, whatever the allegation is, is untrue."

Jonny Evans and Craig Dawson netted against Brighton to end Albion's 20-match winless run in the Premier League.
