Great Britain's Olympic athletes will wear illuminated shoes at the Rio Games closing ceremony to celebrate their largest ever medal haul at an overseas Olympics.

Great Britain's Olympic athletes will wear illuminated shoes at the Rio Games closing ceremony on Sunday night, it has been revealed.

The curtain-closing event at the Maracana will see Team GB celebrate their largest ever haul of medals at an overseas Olympics and potentially a second-place finish in the table.

Accrington-based clothing manufacturer Simon Jersey has designed the athletes' red, white and blue outfits, which feature shoes encrusted with USB-charged flashing bulbs.

According to BBC Sport, the Team GB jacket will also feature a "thank you" to Brazil, written in Portuguese, and a "hello" to Tokyo, the host nation of the next Olympics in 2020.
