Fan fined for 'bend it like Beckham' free kick at West Ham, Tottenham clash

A West Ham United supporter is fined for invading the pitch and 'bending it like Beckham' in his free-kick attempt during his team's match against Tottenham Hotspur.

A district judge has told a pitch invader in court that he "bent it like Beckham" when he attempted a free kick during the West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur derby last month.

Jordan Dunn, 22, admitted to invading the pitch and kicking the ball after it was lined up for Tottenham's Christian Eriksen during Spurs' 1-0 win over West Ham on August 16.

At Thames Magistrates' Court in East London, Dunn, of Dover, was fined £305 for invading the pitch while drunk, but was not issued with a football banning order due to the West Ham fan's previous good character.

Judge Gareth Branston is quoted by BBC News as saying: "You had consumed alcohol and your stride pattern was a bit out of kilter, but to borrow a phrase you did bend it like Beckham."

He added: "Regrettably it was about 30mph slower than Beckham."

Dunn apologised in court and denied being a hooligan or thug.
