France prime minister Manuel Valls has expressed his shock after Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic described the country as "shit" in a post-match outburst.

The Sweden international's rant was picked up on camera following PSG's late 3-2 defeat to Bordeaux on Sunday.

The striker has since apologised for his remarks, and Valls has called on the footballer to be more careful in the future.

"I was shocked by his statements toward the referees and France in general," Valls told Grand Journal. "A footballer must realise that he should always behave well.

"Ibrahimovic must be aware that every word counts in these troubling times. Everybody loses his bearings somewhat when something like this happens."

The 33-year-old has been part of the French team since 2012.
