F1 legend Michael Schumacher 'still in waking-up process from coma'

A statement confirms that F1 legend Michael Schumacher is still in the waking-up process from an induced coma in hospital.

The manager of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher has revealed that the sportsman remains in the "waking-up process" from his coma.

The 45-year-old has been in an induced coma since he was rushed to the University Hospital in Grenoble after hitting his head on a rock while skiing off-piste in the French Alps on December 29.

A statement from Sabine Kehm, revealed by The AP, read: "We are aware that the wake-up phase can take a long time. The family continues to strongly believed in Michael's recovery and place all their trust in the doctors', nurses' and nursing auxiliaries' team.

"The important thing is not the speed of the recovery, but that Michael's heal process progresses in a continuous and controlled way."

Reports emerged earlier this week claiming that Schumacher has contracted a lung infection in hospital, but the statement did not allude to these reports.
