Paralympian Oscar Pistorius 'demanded his own bath and new gym equipment'

South Africa's judicial inspectorate reveals that Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been granted various demands, including a new bed and bath, while in prison.

South Africa's judicial inspectorate Murasiet Mentoor has revealed that six-time Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius has made various demands during his time in prison.

The double amputee is serving a five-year sentence for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, whom he shot dead through a toilet door at his home in Pretoria on Valentine's Day two years ago.

After Pistorius's early prison release was denied this week, Mentoor has revealed that the athlete had a bath installed in his cell and received a new bed after complaining about the previous one.

The 28-year-old was also given permission to cook his own meals due to fear that the other Kgosi Mampuru II inmates would poison him, and he also demanded new gym equipment.

"He complained that he wanted a bath," Mentoor told CNN. "[The correctional services] built a bath in his cell. He also had a complaint about his bed, and they replaced his bed for him.

"Oscar was worried that the food in the prison might be poisoned and that it would affect his health."

Pistorius, who has served 10 months behind bars, escaped a murder conviction after testifying that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder when he fired the gun.
