George Burgess apologises for wilful damage charge

Former Bradford Bulls forward George Burgess apologises following his arrest for allegedly smashing the windscreen of a car.

English rugby league player George Burgess has apologised for getting arrested for allegedly smashing a car windscreen.

The 21-year-old, who plays for South Sydney Rabbitohs, was arrested by police and charged with causing wilful damage following an incident after his side's 30-24 win over Gold Coast Titans in Cairns on Sunday.

"I have let my team and my family down," BBC Sport quotes Burgess as saying. "I would like to apologise unreservedly to the Rabbitohs members, sponsors and everyone in the community. It is my responsibility to ensure that this type of behaviour does not happen again."

Burgess, who moved to the club from Bradford Bulls in 2010, will appear before magistrates on July 10.
