BT Sport Europe free for BT TV customers, but £5 charge for broadband users

BT Sport announces that its Champions League and Europa League coverage will be free for BT TV customers, but will cost £5 a month for broadband users.

BT Sport has announced that the channel's new Champions League and Europa League coverage next season will be free to watch for BT TV customers.

An additional charge of £5 a month for broadband users will provide viewers with the BT Sport Pack, which includes BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, ESPN and the new BT Sport Europe channel.

The broadcaster's European coverage, which was acquired in a multi-million pound deal, will launch on August 1 and will be fronted by Gary Lineker, who will present alongside regular host Jake Humphrey.

Departing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as a pundit for next season's Champions League coverage, while Glenn Hoddle, Harry Redknapp and former referee Howard Webb have also joined the lineup.

BT Consumer chief executive John Petter said: "When we launched BT Sport we promised to make televised football far more accessible and affordable than it has been to date. We have opened the market to millions of new customers and we want to build on that as BT Sport becomes the undisputed home of European football.

"This is a new chapter for European football on TV. BT Sport will show hundreds of live matches throughout the tournament using the very latest technology. Our presenters and experts will also provide the smartest insight and analysis."

BT's European coverage will run for three seasons.
